Prescription Clerk

The prescription clerk provides support to ourGPs and allied health professionals in the receipt and preparation of repeatprescriptions for our 30,000 patient PCN. You will be the main point of contactfor patient enquires about their prescriptions, so resilience is important. Youwill be liaising on sensitive medical information, so a caring customer servicecommunication style is essential.

Main duties of the job

Duties will includecoordinating and preparing repeat prescriptions for our patients, data entryonto patient records. Electronic & paper issuing of medication as well aspatient and pharmacy liaison. The tasks and responsibilities to be undertakenmay include any of the items on the following list, dependent on current andevolving practice workload and staffing levels.

Due to someone retiring, Market Harborough & Bosworth Partnership is excited to announce that we are recruiting Prescription Clerk to join our friendly team. Market Harborough Medical Centre will be the main location of the job and is situated within walking distance of a bustling town centre. We are the largest GP surgery in South Leicestershire, operating out of three sites: Market Harborough Medical Centre, Husbands Bosworth Medical Centre and St Luke's Treatment Centre. We have 34,000 patients and 10 care homes. We have a supportive organisational culture that champions continuous learning and development of all staff. All staff are provided with an extensive induction period where they meet different teams across the business and learn how we work. We are a forward-thinking surgery that listens to feedback and acts on it, improving and updating our processes to ensure we continuously strive to deliver high-quality patient care. We host parties in both summer and Christmas time for all staff.

Job responsibilities
  • Work with our GP's to provide a responsive repeat prescription service.
  • Deliver the technical and physical aspects of prescription preparations to ensure safe prescribing of medicines.
  • Deliver an efficient prescription service and ensure service target are met and errors minimised.
  • Comply with legal and professional requirements and accepted guidance with safe systems of work for re-authorising repeat prescriptions.
  • Liaise with Pharmacies on the supply of prescribed medicines, alerting clinicians on any supply issues and forwarding information on alternatives available.
  • Expedite urgent prescriptions to maintain a safe and responsive service to patients.
  • Respond to enquiries from patients, carers, allied health professionals and secondary care in a courteous timely and efficient manner by telephone, letter, email or face to face and maintain precise records of communications.
  • Provide an efficient administration service as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the prescription service.
  • Ensure patient information is kept up to date, secure and confidential. Maintaining accurate patient data in accordance with reporting requirements.
  • Bring any queries to the attention of the relevant prescriber or duty doctor, including over usage and review dates not adhered to.
  • On the GP's instruction inactivate medicines that have never been used or have not been issued for a specified time, maintaining accurate and up to date medical data.
  • Liaise and build good relationships with internal and external pharmacy services as necessary to resolve queries and enable the prescription service.
  • Escalate any problems to your line manager that you may need support with.
  • Provide cover for other members of your team during periods of sickness or annual leave, remaining flexible and responsive to the needs of the business.
  • Undertake training as required to support a safe and efficient service.
