Job description

Kingswood Health Centre is seeking a new Prescription Clerk to join our established Pharmacy Team.

The Prescription Clerk will collaborate with the Senior Prescription Clerk, Pharmacy Technician, and Clinical Pharmacists to provide seamless medication ordering and prescription query services.

This role is for 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, to support team needs.

Main duties of the job

Act as a Prescription Clerk at Kingswood Health Centre, handling requests from patients, representatives, and healthcare professionals for prescriptions via various channels (paper, email, online). Ensure patients are up-to-date with reviews and assist in booking appointments for ongoing care and health reviews.

Assist in maintaining accurate patient medication records by reviewing communications from hospitals, discharge summaries, and liaising with the pharmacy to update medication information promptly, informing patients and pharmacy accordingly.

Job responsibilities
  • Manage medication requests, including for vulnerable patients and out-of-stock items
  • Coordinate with local pharmacies about stock shortages
  • Maintain the out-of-stock medication board
  • Handle requests for out-of-stock medications with support from senior staff
  • Notify patients about their request status and book reviews as needed
  • Understand EPS and electronic repeat dispensing systems
  • Track prescriptions via the EPS Portal
  • Ensure electronic transfer of prescriptions to pharmacies, updating records as needed
  • Complete and submit communication forms for medication updates
  • Support pharmacy searches and medication switches
  • Update patient demographics regularly
  • Handle prescription requests requiring clinical input, keeping patients informed
  • Monitor and respond to emails in the prescriptions and Klinik inboxes
  • Process monthly orders from nursing and residential homes
  • Order appliances in line with the BNSSG ICB Formulary, informing patients accordingly
  • Gather additional information from patients for past or acute medication requests
