Job description

We are looking for a Prescribing clerk & Administrator to join our supportive team. You will be part of our Medicines Management team and take a lead in processing repeat prescription requests as well as dealing with medication queries. You will also be part of our wider administration team assisting with the front house and back office requirements of the practice.

Previous experience within general practice or a community pharmacy is desirable though full training will be given to the right candidate. Excellent people skills are essential.

Experience with software used by GPs (particularly EMIS web) is desirable, but full training will be given.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent I.T. skills, strong communication skills, have the ability to pay attention to detail and be efficient with high standards of care and performance.

Applicants will be able to maintain a polite, calm, empathetic and helpful manner at all times when dealing with patients. They must also be able to adapt easily to changes within the NHS and the high level of demand of working as part of a busy general practice team.

Main duties of the job

Process repeat medication requests

Ensuring medication reviews are up to date

Working with our long term conditions team to ensure all tests required for medication reviews are requested and patient is recalled to do these

Answer medication queries from patients

Assist patients with requesting their medication via their online patient record account

Assist the practice with front of house and back office duties - answering the telephone, dealing with econsults, front desk reception work, dealing with tasks, dealing with emails, document management.

Job responsibilities

Processing repeat prescriptions requests

Use of GP computer systems - Emis web, docman, accurx, microsoft office etc.

Liaising with GPs, nurses, pharmacy, pharmacy technician, community pharmacist teams and patients regarding medication queries.

Handling prescription requests from care homes and other external agencies including appliance companies

Ensuring prescription processing is carried out in line with practice policies and current prescribing protocols.

Maintaining accurate records and documenting all communications.

Identifying and flagging potential prescribing issues, such as overuse or medication reviews due.

Supporting the clinical team with prescription audits or medication safety work when required.
