Job description

St Catharine’s College, situated in the heart of Cambridge, has an opportunity for a Prep Chef to join our busy kitchen team. You will be working on either the veg or larder section, preparing and cooking basic vegetable dishes and garnishes or creating basic or composite salads and protein dishes. This is a Monday to Friday role working from 7.00am - 3.30pm (40 hours a week). The successful candidate will assist the Kitchen Manager in providing high-quality meals to our community and conferencing customers, in compliance with Food and Safety Regulations and College policies.

This role is varied, offering a broad range of cooking opportunities from everyday College meals for students and conference guests to fine dining for more formal events.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have a minimum of 1 year's experience
  • Have good communication skills
  • Possess the ability to follow instructions from Section Chef/Kitchen Manager at all times
  • Have accurate record-keeping skills and good attention to detail
  • Have the ability to work under pressure

Working arrangements

The full-time hours are 40 hours per week, to be worked Monday to Friday from 7am to 3.30pm.

Employment arrangements
  • This is a permanent appointment (subject to a six-month probation period)
  • Full-time salary of £26,308.80 per annum
