Job summary

Salesian School, part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust, is seeking a Premises Caretaker to commence as soon as possible. You will be responsible for keeping two school sites safe, well-maintained and presented to a high standard for students, staff and visitors.

This role reports to the Premises Manager and involves daily maintenance tasks, a 36-hour week with shifts 10:00–18:00 and 12:30–20:30 on a bi-weekly pattern, and a closing date of 20 September 2026.

Qualifications

• Good awareness of premises and safety issues and able to respond to hazards.
• Practical skills in carpentry, painting, use of tools and plumbing.
• Ability to communicate clearly with staff, students and visitors.
• Ability to work with initiative and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Keep two school sites safe and well-maintained and presented to a high standard for students, staff and visitors.
• Carry out daily maintenance and caretaking tasks to support smooth school operation.
• Support the Premises Manager and contribute to ongoing improvements of the school environment.

Salary: £31,659 - £33,952.00–

Pay Range PS6Hours: 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Hours will be 10am to 6pm and 12.30pm to 8.30pm bi-weekly.

Applications will be reviewed on submissionPurpose: Reporting to the Premises Manager, the Premises Caretaker will serve the mission of Salesian School by being a professional, positive and visible member of the Premises team tasked with ensuring the two school sites are safe, well-maintained and always presented to a high standard for students, staff and visitors. To carry out maintenance and caretaking activities on a daily basis, to aid the smooth running of the school and to work as part of a team to continually improve the school environment.

Person Specification
