Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Band 6 Prehabilitation Exercise Professional to enhance the health and wellbeing of patients preparing for surgery and radiotherapy. A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for us to recruit to a Band 6 Prehabilitation Exercise Professional (Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist) to work in the award winning Prehabilitation Service at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust.
NUH launched its Cancer Prehabilitation service in April 2022 and since then has supported over 1700 patients to prepare and optimise their health and wellbeing ahead of major surgery. The service has recently expanded its scope to also include support for people preparing for radical radiotherapy treatment.
A large focus of the service is based on improving the cardiovascular fitness of each patient by providing high quality, evidence based, intensive exercise interventions.
Prehabilitation aligns with the fundamental strategies and ambitions of NHS England, Nottinghamshire ICS and NUH and is underpinned by NUH’s clear commitment and investment into Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy.
You will be supported by the Prehab Team lead, Matron and Head of Service. You will also work closely with other professionals from across clinical specialities including Cancer Nurse Specialists and with Exercise Practitioners at venues across Nottinghamshire.
The post holder will have a degree or MSc in Physiotherapy with a HCPC registration or hold an equivalent qualification as an Exercise Physiologist. They will have some knowledge and interest in oncology and cancer care and expertise in exercise prescription.
The post holder will be responsible for a prehabilitation caseload, including conducting assessments, running both one to one and group exercise sessions and providing telephone/virtual support to patients undergoing Prehabilitation.
Work alongside members of the Prehabilitation multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality service.
They will be able to work autonomously in line with Prehab guidance and provide appropriate day to day supervision of other unregistered members of the team including providing any relevant training.
Deliver high quality, clinically effective care, and patient experience, utilising research and in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the specialist area.
Contribute to the development and delivery of a programme of practice and professional development within the team and relevant colleagues.
