Job summary

FORDS Packaging Systems Ltd is seeking an experienced Precision Tool Fitter to join our mechanical assembly team. You will fit, assemble, and test tool units that form part of our foil cap lines, running at high speeds and delivering reliable performance.

From start to finish you will build and test complete tool units, refurbish older units to as‑new condition, and assist with the building of complete press assemblies when required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in precision fitting and mechanical assembly to tight tolerances.
  • Ability to test tool units and verify performance at operational speeds.
  • Proactive, detail‑oriented, and able to work both in a team and independently.

Responsibilities

  • Fit, assemble, and test new tool units and all associated parts and assemblies.
  • To ensure that all parts and assemblies are correctly fitted and assembled together in accordance with the agreed tolerances and procedures.
  • To build new tool unit assemblies and repair and refurbish existing tool units to an as new condition.
  • To carry out testing of the tool units in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • To assist with the building or repair of complete press assemblies when required.
  • To work as part of the highly skilled mechanical assembly team.

Job description

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Precision Tool Fitter to join our expanding team. The ideal candidate will take great pride in their work and be responsible for mechanical assembly, testing and acceptance of tool units that produce foil caps at rates of up to 750 per minute. Typically, a tool unit will take around one week to complete and the fitter builds and tests the complete unit from start to finish. The units are incorporated in our range of bespoke capping and sealing equipment which are sold worldwide. The average tool unit will be used for up to 25 million cycles in its lifetime before reconditioning.

Key Duties
  • To fit, assemble, and test new tool units and all associated parts and assemblies.
  • To ensure that all parts and assemblies are correctly fitted and assembled together in accordance with the agreed tolerances and procedures.
  • To build new tool unit assemblies and repair and refurbish existing tool units to an as new condition.
  • To carry out testing of the tool units in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • To assist with the building or repair of complete press assemblies when required.
  • To work as part of the highly skilled mechanical assembly team.
  • Work in accordance with Company procedures and specific guidelines and terms of reference at all times.
  • Carry out any such tasks as required from time to time, provided they are within the competence of the postholder.
