Job summary

Interaction Recruitment is seeking an experienced Assembly Operator for a specialist manufacturing team in Ilminster, Somerset. You will set up and operate machinery to safely manufacture high-precision optical products throughout the production process, working on periscopes and opto-mechanical sights for armoured vehicles.

You will join a small team with a strong emphasis on quality, following established procedures and ensuring accurate assembly, bonding, and inspection of optical components.

Qualifications

• Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
• Experience following detailed written procedures and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
• Assemble periscopes.
• Mix adhesives and prepare metal surfaces for optics bonding.
• Bond optical surfaces for substrates and laser protection filters.
• Set optical sub-assemblies to the correct orientation.
• Inspect optics and metalwork against required specifications.
• Carry out AQL inspections on selected parts.
• Follow the MRB process for non-conforming parts.
• Complete history cards and all required production documentation.
• Pack finished products ready for the next stage or despatch.
• Clean production equipment and work areas.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Work collaboratively within a small team and provide assistance and cover when required.
• Take responsibility for department/cell quality, output, safety and improvement targets.
• Follow all Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures.
