Job summary

Simply Recruitment Group is seeking a Manual Machinist for a permanent role near Oldham. The position involves hands-on operation of manual lathes, milling machines and drilling equipment to produce precision components from engineering drawings.

The ideal candidate is time-served or a Mechanical Engineering Technician with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, and experience in a manufacturing environment. Salary around £33,400 with 25 days holiday, pension and healthcare.

Qualifications

• Time-served Manual Machinist or Mechanical Engineering Technician
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent engineering qualification preferred
• Previous experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment
• Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• Strong understanding of manual machining processes and tooling
• Experienced using precision measuring equipment
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
• Strong commitment to health and safety
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Fitting and assembly experience would be advantageous

Responsibilities

• Operating manual lathes, milling machines and drilling equipment
• Working from engineering drawings and written instructions
• Machining components to precise tolerances
• Selecting appropriate tooling and machine settings
• Carrying out own inspection and quality checks
• Using measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers and dial indicators
• Following established machine shop, quality and health & safety procedures
• Identifying and resolving machining issues
• Supporting fitting and assembly activities where required
