A healthcare provider in Leeds is looking for a preceptorship midwife to oversee and support early career midwives. This role involves developing a preceptorship programme, providing mentorship, and ensuring safe, evidence-based practice. Wererecruiting to a 12-month fixed-term/secondment Band 7 preceptorship rolewithin the maternity services at Leeds Teaching Hospital with the potentialfor a permanent Band 6 position within the service afterwards. As apreceptorship midwife you will work alongside our early career midwivesacross the 24-hour period to enhance their experience, build confidence andestablish a strong foundation for their future career.
Youwill be an integral in developing and delivering a quality preceptorshipprogramme to support and promote safe evidence-based practice by workingcollaboratively with the clinical education team, professional midwiferyadvocates, the wider clinical and leadership teams, and the leadpreceptorship midwife to deliver a robust seamless preceptorship programme.
Tobe responsible for overseeing early career midwives and facilitating thepreceptorship programme, supporting the transition from student to newlyqualified midwife. Acting as a role model, you will provide support for thepreceptee midwives as they consolidate their learning and skills. As a memberof the preceptorship team, you will work with a caseload of precepteemidwives to enhance their experience, build confidence and establish a strongfoundation for their future career. The overall function of this post is tofacilitate the delivery of a high-quality preceptorship programme. You willparticipate in developing and delivering a quality preceptorship programmewith a focus on the provision of leadership and clinical support and adviceto support and promote excellence in safe evidence-based practice. The postholder will be required to work closely with preceptees and the widerclinical and leadership team to provide a robust model of pastoral supportand act as a coach, mentor and supportive listener. The post holder will workclosely with the established clinical education team, professional midwiferyadvocates and the lead preceptorship midwife to deliver a robust seamlesspreceptorship programme. The post holder will need to have demonstrable knowledgeskills and experience in maternity services to facilitate effectivepreceptorship across all clinical areas of the maternity service.

PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Communication

To provide pastoral support for allnew graduates signposting to services as required

To coordinate regular clinicalsupervision for the early career midwives during their preceptorship period.

Act as a role model, sharingeffective practice and learning from others, promoting a high standard ofsafe and effective care which is based upon the best evidence
Inform the Director/Head ofMidwifery of any emerging safety issues becoming evident in the maternityservice

Servicedelivery and improvement
Keep up to date with developmentsin midwifery practice, incorporating national and local recommendations intothe preceptorship programme
Work collaboratively with theworkforce lead to analyse feedback and data to support recruitment andretention strategies and identify new initiatives to support the retention ofnew graduates
Identify areas for potentialquality improvement and act to develop and achieve successful qualityimprovement projects
Support the recruitment team withrecruitment processes including interviewing.
Support delivery of onboarding ofnew starters and provide efficient and effective inductions, liaising withthe lead midwife for recruitment and the onboarding team.
Continually monitor standards, byidentifying risks, benchmarking, audit and research, assisting the Wardleaders in the implementation of action plans as required.
Assist with allocated budgetsensuring effective use of financial resources.
Learningand development
To work with local educationproviders and the overarching lead midwife for preceptorship to ensure theprogramme supports a natural transition into the preceptees first role.
Recognise the knowledge, skills,attributes and competence of preceptee midwives at the point of registration,providing them with the appropriate resources to enable them to develop theirconfidence and practice
To work clinically alongside thenew preceptees to support their transition from learner to competentpractitioner acting as a role model and providing a model of support
Provide support to midwives insharing of good practice learnt through the maternity services internal riskmanagement processes with the aim of reducing the incidence of harm
Work closely with the leadershipteam and education team to devise learning objectives for midwives in need ofremediation to improve their midwifery skills and competencies.
Ensure all training records are upto date and compile reports as required
Contribute to training needsanalysis, workforce plan and midwifery workforce strategy.
To ensure own practice and that ofothers upholds the NMC Codes of professional conduct.
Takes responsibility for owncontinuing professional development and performance, maintaining ownportfolio in accordance with the Midwifery and Nursing Councils revalidationrequirements. Can identify own development needs in relation to currentpractice and future plans, setting personal development objectives.

12. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
i) PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Thework setting will vary from an office to clinical areas with VDU use. Lightphysical effort (2-5kgs) for short periods during half their shifts onaverage. Use of Keyboard and presentation skills. Movement of equipment andmaterials. Inter-site working could be required,
ii) MENTAL EFFORT:
Thejob requires a high level of concentration, documenting in notes,calculations, assessing patients, high level of involvement in clinicalteaching, audit and statistical analysis of data. Report writing, within anarea of changing priorities with a high level of interruptions.
iii) EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
Staffare required to undertake duties that may be distressing such as breaking badnews, dealing with verbal abuse, managing very stressed service users, theirfamilies and colleagues. Significant amount of negotiation and processing ofrapid changing information, in an area of changing priorities and climatechallenges.
iv) WORKING CONDITIONS:
Workingconditions can include fluctuations in temperature, exposure to blood andbody fluids. Conflict management and dealing with aggression in stressfulsituations.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
