Job description

This vacancy is for UK trained, newly qualified midwives and is not suitable for internationally educated midwives as a bridging programme.

At Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust, we pride ourselves on providing a supportive, holistic Midwife Preceptorship programme to support you in transitioning from a student to a fully qualified midwife. This programme will see you complete placements in all areas including community, labour ward and the antenatal and postnatal wards alongside tailored study days to support your development. Community placements may be at any of our locations which includes Buckingham community hospital, Amersham hospital, High Wycombe hospital as well as Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

It is expected that midwives work autonomously within the Trust guidelines and sphere of professional practice.

Currently, this role is fixed-term for 1-year. On successful completion, pending vacancy, you would be able to apply for a substantive, band 6 post. We would discuss your preferred area of work and seek to find a role that meets these preferences.

Main duties of the job

You will join our enthusiastic and committed midwifery team as a rotational midwife, working in both in- and out-patient settings. We have a dedicated team of midwives who will ensure you are supported through supernumerary shifts, and a structured, supportive package. You will be joining a well-established team, dedicated to the on-going promotion of women-centred care and better births.

As a member of our team you will be professional, reliable, safe and compassionate for women, babies and their families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team in an environment that is open, supportive and empowering.

Your experience will ensure that you provide a high standard of care to mothers and their relatives/carers. This in turn will be supported by our well established and robust in-house training programmes alongside an accessible approach to supervision.

On successful completion of your preceptorship year, you will gain your Band 6 midwife position.

Flexible shifts including days, weekends and nights are available to support our growing population and service needs.
