Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced EFL and EAP tutors to join Kings Foundations to teach on our Pre-sessional programmes in summer 2025.

This year there will be two 6-week programmes, one taught online and the other on campus. Both programmes follow the same approach and syllabus, with students attending live classes, lectures and tutorials. (Please note: Online tutors will be required to attend an on-campus induction in London.)

You will work alongside friendly permanent tutors, teaching highly motivated students who are keen to develop their English language and academic literacy skills with you. For tutors new to EAP, training and support will be provided through our buddy scheme, regular team meetings, on-course induction and CPD programme.

The role holder will be expected to complete teaching, assessment & feedback, administration and pastoral duties to a high standard to ensure that the students on the programme receive the best possible student experience and progress onto their degree programmes able to fulfil their potential.

Successful candidates must be UK based, have a UK bank account and be available to be on campus in central London for the first three days of induction (Wed 2nd to 4th July).

Salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience. We offer 7-week full-time contracts, with all contracts including a paid 5-day induction.

Key Responsibilities:

1. To deliver innovative teaching using communicative pedagogic approaches, as per requirements of the timetable and in line with on-campus and online pre-sessional course norms.
2. To provide a high-quality student experience, including through the provision of timely, actionable feedback and advice.
3. To take responsibility for managing all aspects of teaching, assessment, administration and tutorials to the required standard.
4. To act as personal tutor to a group of students, the majority of whom will be postgraduates and from East Asia, for pastoral and academic support. NB: Personal tutors will have additional safeguarding duties for students who are under 18; support will be given for this.
5. To communicate with other EAP tutors, the pre-sessional coordination team and professional services staff in a professional, collaborative, collegiate manner to ensure the effective delivery of the pre-sessional programme(s).
6. To engage fully with internal and external quality assurance processes.
7. To strive for and promote excellence in teaching and learning as an individual and as a member of teaching teams.
8. To undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Pre-sessional & Short Courses or Pre-sessional Team.

The posts will be offered on a fixed-term contracts basis as follows:

Wed 2nd July - Tue 19th August 2025 (7-week contract)

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent. Please make sure you are available for the entire period.

Minimum Requirements:

1. TEFL-I status according to British Council accreditation guidelines. (e.g. Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL)
2. Experience of planning and delivering successful English language and skills lessons online.
3. Experience of planning and delivering successful on-campus English language and skills lessons.
4. Experience of assessing learners' English language proficiency and competence.
5. Experience of providing timely, constructive, actionable feedback on learners' work.
6. Ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to learners of varying ages and from diverse backgrounds.
7. Fluent command of written and spoken English.
8. Aware of, and committed to, inclusive practices in the classroom.
9. Evidence of being able to work collaboratively with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds to deliver an excellent student experience.
10. TEFL-Q status according to British Council accreditation guidelines (e.g. Cambridge DELTA/Trinity DipTESOL or PGCE in relevant subject).
11. Postgraduate degree, preferably in TESOL/Applied Linguistics or other relevant area.
12. Experience of teaching on university-based EAP courses, preferably on pre-sessional courses.
13. Current DBS clearance.

Job Salary & Benefits

The salary will be paid on a range of £44,355 – £46,671 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance. In addition to this, Pre-sessional EAP Tutors will receive paid holiday time in lieu of annual leave, which equates to the following approximate pay per contract. Precise salary will be dependent on relevant qualifications and experience.
