Job description

For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Job Description
Pre-Rig Technician

Red Bull Powertrains has an exciting opportunity to join our Test Operations team as we transition from building our team’s first Power Units to refining them into a race-ready package, all aimed at delivering the most competitive car on the 2026 Formula One grid. We are seeking a Pre-Rig Technician to help drive the future of motorsport innovation. You will be based at our state-of-the-art engineering and manufacturing facility in Milton Keynes, designed to produce high-performance Power Units for the 2026 engine regulations.

In this Pre-Rig Technician role, you will have the opportunity to conduct physical testing to prove out Powertrain systems, covering an extensive range from single components to full vehicle with electrified Powertrain. Maximising the effect of this group will require a highly dynamic approach and use of advanced test technology, automation tools and the latest testing methodologies.

Your Responsibilities:
  1. Carrying out the pre-rig and de-rig of UUTs to and from the dyno
  2. Assist with the installation and removal of UUTs from the test bed when required, including any instrumentation required, and update systems accordingly
  3. Building up various dyno and pre-rig assemblies as required
  4. Maintain effective communication with all relevant areas such as engine build, engine strip, and engineering
  5. Contribute to the long-term development and efficiency of the pre-rig area
  6. Provide a flexible approach towards working hours, which may include shift patterns and travel to support events to meet business demands as/when required
Your Experience:
  1. Relevant experience of engine component & full Power Unit testing, ideally within the motorsport industry
  2. Excellent practical, hands-on experience of Power Units, as well as basic electrics and hydraulic systems
  3. A good understanding of motor vehicle technology and knowledge of F1 Powertrain architecture
  4. Experience of pre-rigging modern F1 Power Units is preferred but not essential
  5. An apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 vocational qualification or higher in Mechanical or Motor Vehicle Engineering is preferable
  6. Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency
  7. Target-oriented working ethic and willingness to learn

Not only is this a fantastic Pre-Rig Technician role, but it is also a great team to work with here at Red Bull Powertrains. A good salary is just the start; there are many other benefits such as our bonus scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, workplace nursery, pension scheme, on-site gym & fitness classes, free daily food, and a cycle-to-work scheme. Above all, the job satisfaction of making a real contribution to our championship-winning Grand Prix cars is unmatched.
