Main duties of the job

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

To oversee the day-to-day operations of a pre-operative assessment department, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective patient care.

To be responsible for ensuring that patients are appropriately assessed, prepared for surgery, and informed about their upcoming procedure.

To be responsible for the patient's clinical journey along agreed patient care pathways, supported by evidence-based practice.

To ensure provision of highest standard of safe and effective care through the effective use of evidence-based practice in line with agreed local and national standards and the NMC Code.

To be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the Pre-assessment Department.

To lead in development of the Pre-operative Assessment Department and continuously improving the service.

To support the quality governance framework, agenda, and standards

For Clinical Roles:

The successful candidate will be expected to work on a shift basis, working 37.5 hours per week over a 7 day rota during the hospital operating hours. The rota is not fixed, is subject to change in order to meet operational needs and will be required to work weekends and bank holidays in accordance with the rota.

  • Previous primary healthcare/ POA Department experience.
  • Significant experience in pre-operative assessment and a strong understanding of patient care pathways.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, manage performance, and drive service improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues, make sound clinical judgments, and adapt to changing situations.
