Job summary

NG Bailey is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager (Electrical) to lead a team of design engineers from design through construction in Scotland. Hybrid working is offered for this permanent, full-time role with a competitive package and car allowance.

You will drive constructability reviews, manage risk and schedules, and provide construction-level input while coordinating with stakeholders and multiple offices. Chartership or progression toward it is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in preconstruction and construction management.
• Proven ability to lead and manage teams of construction managers, supervisors, and site engineers.
• Strong knowledge of construction management, OH&S and SHEQ.
• HND in Engineering or Construction (or equivalent).
• Health & Safety qualifications (SMSTS, IOSH, NEBOSH) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead Design & Build projects across three phases: Tender, Post-Contract Award, Construction.
• Manage risk registers, cost estimations, and initial scheduling.
• Provide constructability reviews and input to schedules and quality plans.
• Offer site support and guidance to ensure design feasibility during construction.
• Conduct lessons learned reviews to improve future delivery.

About the Role: Are you ready to take the lead in exciting, large-scale multidisciplinary projects? Freedom is on the lookout for a passionate Preconstruction Manager (Electrical) to guide a talented team of design engineers. In this pivotal role, you will ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to construction, facilitating the seamless handover of engineering solutions.

As our Electrical Preconstruction Manager, you will leverage your construction and site experience to enhance the design process, spearheading the constructability review phase of electrical designs. Your leadership, problem-solving abilities, and stakeholder management skills will be crucial in driving project efficiency and successful delivery.

This dynamic position may involve managing multiple projects simultaneously and will require occasional travel to various offices and sites.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Preconstruction Manager, you will focus on Design & Build projects, with responsibilities spanning three key phases:

Tender Phase

• Evaluate client and project requirements from tender documentation.
• Assist sales and business development teams with risk and opportunity assessments.
• Provide cost estimations and contribute to initial project scheduling.
• Address design-related queries during the tender process.

Post-Contract Award

• Lead constructability reviews, ensuring designs are practical for construction.
• Provide construction-level input into the project schedule and quality plan.
• Assist in managing the project risk register and health & safety file.
• Support the transition from design to construction.

Construction Phase

• Provide site support, troubleshooting construction issues as they arise.
• Offer technical guidance to ensure design feasibility throughout the project.
• Conduct lessons learned reviews to enhance future project execution.

What We’re Looking For

We seek individuals with a robust technical background in electrical or civil engineering and construction, complemented by commercial awareness and leadership capabilities. We actively encourage chartership in engineering, and senior professionals are expected to be chartered or working towards it.

Essential Qualifications

• Extensive experience in preconstruction and construction management.
• Proven ability to lead and manage teams of construction managers, supervisors, and site engineers.
• Strong knowledge of construction management, OH&S, and SHEQ.
• HND in Engineering or Construction (or equivalent qualification).
• Health & Safety qualification (SMSTS, IOSH, or NEBOSH).

Desirable Qualifications

• Knowledge of UK T&D regulations and client standards.
• Familiarity with safe systems of work and engineering best practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
• CSCS card.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
