Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a Pre Construction Design Lead for the Oak Facades unit in Leicester. You will steer the design process from bid through handover, ensuring buildability, compliance, and commercially viable solutions.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, promote BIM practices, and maintain strong client interfaces, delivering value while managing risks and opportunities throughout pre-construction.

Role Title: Pre Construction Design Lead

Business Unit: Oak Facades

Location: Leicester

Role Overview

The Pre-Construction Design Manager is responsible for leading and managing the design process during the pre-construction phase of building projects. The role ensures that designs are coordinated, compliant, buildable, commercially viable, and aligned with client requirements from project inception through to contract award and handover to the delivery team.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Lead and manage the design process during pre-construction and tender stages.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and specialist subcontractors.
  • Develop and manage design programmes aligned with bid and project requirements.
  • Support bid submissions, technical reviews, RFIs and value engineering activities.
  • Act as the primary interface with clients and consultants during pre‑construction.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, planning requirements, CDM Regulations and relevant standards.
  • Promote BIM and digital construction processes.
  • Manage design risks, opportunities and commercial considerations.
  • Ensure effective handover to project delivery teams.
About You
  • Strong understanding of building design, construction methodologies and design coordination.
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations, Building Safety Act and CDM Regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of procurement and cost planning.
  • Experience with BIM, Revit, and Common Data Environments.
  • Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Significant design management experience within the construction industry.
  • Experience managing design during bids, tenders and pre‑construction phases.
  • Professional membership (RIBA, CIOB, CIAT, ICE, CIBSE etc.) desirable.
