Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a Small Works Project Manager to deliver construction projects across London and the UK. You will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and to client specifications, with responsibility for safety, design coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

You will lead the commercial team, manage subcontractors, and ensure regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including RAMS reviews and site safety.

  • Proven experience in construction/small works.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and subcontractors.

Role Title: Project Manager

Business Unit: Facilities Management - Small Works

Location: Uxbridge / UK Wide Travel

Role Overview

TAs a Small Works Project Manager you will deliver projects in and around the London area, you will successfully deliver projects on time and within budget and to client specifications. The project will vary in size and complexity. You will be required to travel within the UK as per business requirements to deliver projects in various UK locations as well as the London area.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Manage construction/redevelopment projects
  • Create a ‘Knowingly Safe’ working environment.
  • Ensure that the principles of CDM are applied and relevant legislation is complied with.
  • Engage with the designer to ensure a safe, buildable and timely design is achieved within the detailed design phase to allow efficient delivery of the scheme.
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate collaborative workshops as and when required.
  • Project Financial Management is key to delivering within budget.
  • Prepare and complete construction phase plans.
  • Assist client with the development of the project scope.
  • Interview select and onboard contractors in line with the Builders Profile.
  • With the support of the Commercial Team ensure the selection of the best Supply Chain partners.
  • Ensure all pre-commencement and regulatory requirements are discharged prior to work commencing.
  • Plan and prepare for delivery of the Scheme throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure temporary and permanent works are delivered in accordance with the design.
  • Plan, prepare and oversee the establishment of the site offices and compound.
  • Champion the use of innovative technologies and techniques.
  • Undertake site inductions with all subcontractors when required.
  • Take ownership of risk & opportunities in conjunction with the Commercial Manager.
  • Lead the Commercial Team to manage costs, and maximise cash flow and profitability, capturing any changes in scope.
  • Ensure any incidents/accidents are thoroughly investigated, closed out and learnings implemented.
  • Take ownership for the delivery and quality of work to the required standards.
  • Supervise subcontractors to ensure quality and "right first-time approach".
  • Monitor and record subcontractor performances.
  • Ensure the site fulfils all obligations for external compliance audits.
  • Ensure subcontractors deliver work to meet safety, quality and programme requirements.
  • Carry out reviews and acceptance of subcontractors RAMS, COSHH assessments and safety plans as required.
  • Manage the Construction Teams and Supply Chain partners to ensure delivery of the Scheme in line with the agreed Budget, Programme and Scope.
  • Ensure all internal and external reporting is completed as required.
About You
  • First class project management capabilities able to showcase a track record of delivering to client’s expectations.
  • Proven record working in the construction industry/ Small works
  • Able to deliver multiple projects
  • Proven experience in successfully managing multiple subcontractors.
  • Expertise in developing a performance culture.
  • Advanced communication skills adept at interfacing with multiple stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 15.
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC and commercially astute.
  • Proven leadership and delegation skills.
  • Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures.
  • HNC/Degree
  • Trade background (electrician/joiner etc)
  • Qualification in an Engineering discipline
  • Qualifications in a construction discipline
  • IOSH / NEBOSH qualification.
  • Office 365 expertise.
