Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Pre-analytics Supervisor in the Laboratory Medicine division. You will lead the reception team within Pre-analytics, ensuring efficient sample handling and high-quality data capture. The role requires leadership, adaptability and a patient‑centred approach.

Full training is provided. The department operates 8am–8pm with some weekends; late shifts to 20:00 and bank holidays are included.

Qualifications

• Previous NHS laboratory experience is an advantage.
• Full training will be provided.
• Excellent leadership and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain long-term consistency in service and uphold Trust values.
• Process specimens for screening and data entry in reception areas.
• Prioritise samples arriving to the lab and manage day-to-day workload.
• Handle enquiries from patients and clinical staff by phone or in person.
• Demonstrate organised, thorough approach to work.
• Support quality management tasks: SOPs, audits, IQC, verification.
• Supervise trainee and lab staff; roster planning and people management.
• Work late shifts up to 20:00 and some weekends/bank holidays.
