Pre Academy Lead Coach

Location: Carrington Training Complex

The Purpose

To ensure the successful delivery of a high-quality Pre-Academy programme aimed at identifying, recruiting, retaining, and developing players for progression into the main Academy structure.

The Role


  • Oversee the planning and delivery of the Pre-Academy training and games programme.
  • Manage the implementation of the Development Centre programme.
  • Align all coaching activities with the Academy curriculum to ensure consistency in player development.
  • Design and execute a programme that not only nurtures player development but also supports the scouting team in identifying and retaining talent.
  • Organise and deliver supplementary events beyond regular coaching sessions to enhance player engagement and create memorable club experiences (e.g., attending first-team matches, participating in multi-sport activities).
  • Maintain regular communication and provide constructive feedback to both players and parents.
  • Facilitate a smooth and effective transition for players moving from the Pre-Academy into the main Academy age groups.


The Person:


  • Previous experience of coaching children with high potential
  • Experience of designing development programmes for children with high potential
  • A track record of identifying and recruiting high potential players
  • UEFA B licence essential
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Verbal communication skills and a previous experience of dealing with parents.
  • Excellent organisational skills and an ability to work with total discretion.
  • FA Advanced Youth Award (desirable)
  • Understanding of grassroots football in the North West (desirable)
