Job description
Overview

Our service has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an MHST Practitioner Supervisor. At Hillingdon MHST we work with young people with mild to moderate mental health presentations in schools. The post holder will be responsible for delivering interventions within a Mental Health Support Team in identified schools and colleges in the central areas of Hillingdon and the supervisor for the supervision of Education Mental Health Practitioners in the team.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver under supervision high-quality, brief outcome-focused evidence-based group and individual interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties in and around schools. Receive clinical supervision from the team’s senior practitioner.
  • Promote the mental and emotional health of children, young people and families in the community through evidence-based clinical interventions.
  • Undertake initial school-based and community-based assessments and deliver a range of early interventions for emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Contribute to the overall assessment, including risk assessment, of children and young people in terms of their mental health needs.
  • Offer support, advice, signposting and onward referral to children, professionals requesting advice.
  • Provide professional advice and consultation to education colleagues and support education settings to embed a whole-school approach to wellbeing.
  • Provide education, advice and practical support to young people and their families, as well as brief therapeutic interventions.
  • Support EMHP colleagues within the MHST working at Band 4/5.
  • Routinely measure clinical outcomes and collect MHST data.
  • Liaise with professionals in primary care settings, children’s services, education and other relevant services.
Qualifications and Experience

You will have completed the HEE Postgraduate Diploma in Education Mental Health Practice or Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Wellbeing Practice for children and young people (CWP); or be a qualified health care professional with some level of formal CBT training. You will have postgraduate experience of working with young people with emotional and mental health issues, and extensive experience delivering evidence-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, low mood, behavioural problems) to CYP, both individually and in groups.

Team Context

The MHST works with young people with mild to moderate mental health presentations attending school/education settings in the Hillingdon area. The team provides evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues, supports senior mental health leads in educational settings to develop whole-school approaches, and gives timely advice to school staff and liaises with external specialist services to help children and young people get the right support and stay in education.

Young people access the MHST via one phone number; school staff and other potential referrers can contact a team of clinical staff to discuss potential referrals. The MHST manages referrals, handles queries, conducts clinical telephone triage and face-to-face assessments, gives advice, and signposts young people where appropriate.
