Job description

The post holder will provide a specialised practitioner psychology service to clients of the sector, offering psychological assessment and therapy. Working autonomously in accordance with The British Psychological Society Code of Conduct, Ethical Principles and Guidelines 2004, and the Health and Care Professions Council, the post holder will:

  1. Manage and supervise assistant psychologists and trainees within the team, following policies and procedures.
  2. Contribute to developing local team policies to improve service quality.
  3. Advise management on psychological and organisational matters related to the team.
  4. Provide supervision for staff and trainees, and deliver training and placements for doctoral-level trainee psychologists.
  5. Utilise research skills for audit, policy development, and research.
  6. Participate in recruitment panels as appropriate.
  7. Exercise autonomous professional responsibility, being accountable for all aspects of practice, guided by occupational policies.
Main duties of the job

The post is based within Cwm Taf North CLDT, part of Swansea Bay's Learning Disability Services, providing specialist health input to adults with learning disabilities. The team includes a Principal Practitioner Psychologist, and the post holder will receive supervision from the current psychologist and the Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the CTM directorate hub. Psychology plays a key leadership role within the team, offering advice, consultation, and supervision.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Honours Degree in Psychology
  • Eligibility for BPS Chartered status
  • Postgraduate Doctorate/Qualification in Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychology or equivalent
  • Clinical supervision training for Doctoral Trainee Psychologists
  • Advanced knowledge of practitioner psychology theories, therapies, assessments, and research methods
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and CPD requirements
  • Experience in specialised psychological assessment and treatment across diverse settings
  • Experience of co-ordinating multidisciplinary care and supervising staff and trainees
  • Experience in training, supervision, and working in diverse cultural contexts
Essential Aptitudes and Abilities

  • Supervision skills for staff and trainees
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Effective workload management and teamwork skills
  • Welsh language skills are desirable at levels 1-5

Salary: £54,550 to £61,412 per year (Band 8a, pro-rata)
