Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practice NurseManager to join our friendly, ever-growing practice. The Practice Nurse Managerwill be responsible for the management of the practice nursing team,consisting of Nurses, Nursing Associates, Assistant Practitioners and HCAs.Working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder willensure nursing services are delivered effectively to our patient population.The Nurse Manager will be responsible for a number of clinical areas such as infection preventionand control, health promotion, chronic disease management, health prevention,well women and well man clinics, as well as supporting the practice management team in the reviewing and delivery of clinicalpolicy and procedure.

Ringmead is a 5-sitetraining practice looking after approximately 40,000 patients across Bracknell,Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Owlsmoor.

Main duties of the job

There are 2 deputies supporting nurse manager role in North andSouth of the patch. HR support is also provided.

As well as deliveringexcellent primary care, we are fortunate in having clinicians with expertise incardiology, haematology, palliative care, immunology, dermatology, minorsurgery, joint injections, LARCS and frailty. There is a strong ethos on supportingone another, as well as on education. We offer protected educational andclinical meetings several times a month and mentor ST and FY2 doctors, medicalstudents, nursing students and pharmacy students. We are also highly activewithin our ICB and PCN (The Health Triangle) with 2 of our Partners being theClinical Directors.

Job responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to external multidisciplinary colleagues or GPs as appropriate.

Managerial:

  • Act as manager for the nursing team and through this, support their personal development.
  • Implement partnership/practice business plan to have effective nursing team at the practice.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of changes within the nursing team, enhancing the provision of services to patients.
  • Conduct regular appraisals with individuals for whom you are their line manager.
  • Participate in clinical supervision for the nursing team, and act as nurse advisor to other members of the Primary Healthcare team.
  • Encourage and develop teamwork within the practice.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary protocol and Patient Group Directions development and implementation.
  • Support the Practice Manager /Lead GP for Nursing team in workforce planning.
  • Identify appropriate opportunities to delegate both clinical and administrative tasks to more junior staff.
  • Help the practice to operate in a cost-effective manner.
  • Identify and manage nursing care risks on a continuing basis.
  • Participate in practice meetings and practice management meetings, reporting progress as required.
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
  • Communicate Practice decisions to Nursing team in a timely manner.
  • Organise and chair the Practice Nurses team meetings monthly in conjunction with the lead GP for nurses.
  • Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach, i.e. root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Participate in audits and inspections as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the doctors and administrative managers in the setting up and/or improving of practice systems for monitoring/measuring performance against Clinical Governance and Quality Indicator targets.
  • Ensure that all Practice Policies are fully implemented.
  • Maintain necessary management paperwork for the nursing team e.g., sick leave, return to work interviews, annual leave requests.

Nominated Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead

Perform the role of designated Infection Prevention and Control Lead for Ringmead Medical Practice in compliance with the Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance (2008).

The IPC Lead will have:

  • The appropriate knowledge and skills to take responsibility for infection prevention or be given suitable training to perform the role.
  • Have the authority to challenge inappropriate practice.

The IPC Lead will develop and manage the Annual IPC Programme, to include:

  • leading the practices collective responsibility for preventing and controlling infection and assessing the measures needed to reduce such risks.
  • review and adapt Infection Prevention & Control policy and procedure documents to match the Surgerys Services.
  • manage the audit programme to demonstrate adherence to policies and guidelines and compliance with clinical procedures.
  • coordination of staff induction and ongoing training updates for all staff in infection prevention and control.

The IPC Lead will produce an Annual Statement for placement on the Surgerys Website covering the following list of activities:

  • significant events related to infection prevention & control.
  • IPC audits, outcomes and subsequent actions.
  • IPC training of staff (both induction and annual updates).
  • Reviewed and updated policies, procedures and leaflets/posters.

Other tasks will include:

  • Delegating task about maintaining Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required.
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records.
  • A duty to advise GPs of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
