Job summary

St Marys Surgery in Southampton is seeking a dedicated Practice Nurse to join our healthcare team. You will provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care, support clinical procedures and work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver services across the practice.

The role welcomes newly qualified nurses with UK registration; you will participate in CPD, audits, and infection prevention, contributing to safe, evidence-based care and strong patient welfare support.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in using electronic health record systems is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with patients and their families.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality, compassionate, evidence based and person-centred nursing care to patients.
• Provide health education and advice to patients regarding lifestyle changes and disease prevention.
• Provide long term condition reviews.
• Administer medication for patients in accordance with patient group directives (PGDs).
• Request pathology services and process pathology results as required.
• Deliver women's health services (e.g. cervical smears).
• Support other members of the practice clinical team with nursing services including supporting clinical emergencies.
• Recognise, assess and refer/signpost patients to other members of the practice clinical team and/or external partner agencies as required.
• Support the practice in offering student nurse placement mentoring, coaching and teaching.
• Liaise with external services/agencies where necessary to ensure the patient is supported appropriately.
• Safeguard children and vulnerable adults, ensuring that concerns are escalated appropriately in accordance with local and national policies.
• Support the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) lead and the implementation of the IPC policy taking part in audits, training and support.
• Participate in supervision, peer support and professional development arrangements.
• Participate in continuous professional development activities to enhance nursing skills.
