Job summary

Manor View Practice in Bushey, Hertfordshire seeks an experienced practice nurse to join a large multidisciplinary team. You will work autonomously with mentor support, covering the full practice nurse remit and developing your primary care nursing skills.

You will provide care for minor injuries, immunisations, health checks, and counselling to promote healthier lifestyles, while collaborating with GPs and community teams to deliver patient-centred care.

Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse with current UK NMC registration.
  • Experience in primary care or a practice nursing setting preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously with mentoring support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic and higher levels of nursing care for patients.
  • Deliver minor injuries care, wound care, and advanced dressings.
  • Administer immunisations including cervical cytology and travel vaccines where appropriate.
  • Support flu campaigns and population vaccination programmes.
  • Perform health checks, spirometry, blood pressure, ECGs, venepuncture, and related tests.
  • Promote health education and disease prevention.
  • Liaise with community nursing for home visits when needed.

Job summary

A superb opportunity for a current practice nurse or a nurse working in primary care to join this large, thriving practice. Working autonomously but with good mentor support, you will cover the full practice nurse remit whilst developing your primary care nursing skills.


Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

To provide care for minor injuries, dressings, including pressure bandaging and higher level wound care.


To do cervical cytology sampling, immunisations as outlined by national programmes and local guidelines, working closely with the nursing, clinical and admin team to create systems to identify patients who are in need of such services and promoting the service hard to reach patients.


To support the annual flu campaign and other mass population vaccination programmes as needed in line with national guidance.


To conduct, blood pressure, spirometry, urinalysis, phlebotomy, microbiology samples, ECG, peak flow and other practice based tests as needed in the course of the care of patients.


To carry out health checks in conjunction with national, local and practice initiatives.


To provide patient health promotion/ disease prevention education and counselling focusing on health behaviour change.


To provide travel immunisations to patients of the practice.


To liaise with community nursing colleagues to continue the provision of nursing care in the home if patients are unable to attend the practice and to transfer or share care as appropriate, visiting outside the practice if needed on exceptional circumstances to meet the needs of patients.


To provide support to the GPs in the management of chronic diseases.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties

To promote the health and well-being of patients by counselling patients on the nature of their conditions, the use of their medications, diet, exercise and other health behaviours.


Patient Care

Infection Prevention and Control

Professional Responsibilities


  • Maintain registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

  • Work within the NMC Code of Conduct.

  • Participate in appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development (CPD).

  • Attend mandatory training and practice meetings.

  • Support nursing students, healthcare assistants, and colleagues where appropriate.


Administrative Duties


  • Maintain clinical records accurately and confidentially.

  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages.

  • Participate in audits, QOF activities, and service development.
