Job summary

Kirkgate Surgery is a friendly GP practice seeking a caring Practice Nurse to join the clinical team for 15-20 hours per week. You will work with GPs and HCAs delivering high-quality patient care in a supportive environment. Experience in UK primary care is essential.

Qualifications

Kirkgate Surgery is a friendly, patient-focused practice with a strong ethos of teamwork and support. We are excited to be recruiting a caring Practice Nurse to join our clinical team for 15-20 hours per week.

This opportunity has arisen as our current Practice Nurse is leaveing to return to locum work and developing her private business interests. We offer a welcoming environment where you will be be supported to have a good work-life balance and grow professionally. The role would suit an experienced Practice Nurse looking to reduce their hours later in their career, returning from a career break or a Practice Nurse wishing to supplement another part-time role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work with autonomy alongside our GPs, and HCA team to deliver high-quality patient care, supporting baby immunisations, cervical cervical screening, chronic disease management such as diabetes, asthma COPD etc, phlebotomy, wound management and treatment room duties. The successful candidate will oversee infection control compliance; vaccination ordering and ensure that all nurse-related Care Quality Commission evidence indicators are compliant.

Job responsibilities
  • Deliver a range of nursing services including chronic disease management (asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension), cervical cytology, childhood and adult immunisations, travel vaccinations and advice, contraceptive services, wound care, suture/staple removal, venepuncture, ECGs, and health promotion.
  • Achieve immunisation targets and ensure the safe storage, handling, rotation, and disposal of vaccines and medications.
  • Participate in safeguarding procedures, recognising and responding appropriately to child abuse, vulnerable adults, and other safeguarding concerns.
  • Undertake emergency care, first aid, anaphylaxis, and resuscitation where required within the team.
  • Work within your NMC scope of practice, following PGDs and clinical policies, referring to GPs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and contribute to quality improvement and achievement of clinical targets.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards at all times.
  • Engage with the wider public health agenda, clinical governance, and local health initiatives where appropriate.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working in UK primary care.
  • Positive and friendly attitude.
  • Passionate about providing excellent patient care.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
  • Stock checking and ordering of equipment and administered medication.
  • Experience using SystmOne and ICE
Qualifications
Essential
  • Nursing degree or equivalent qualification, with a valid professional licence to practice in UK primary care nursing.
  • Competence in chronic disease management, including Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, and CHD/CVD.
  • Wound care, dressings, and leg ulcer management.
  • Cervical screening qualification.
  • Proficient in venepuncture and electrocardiography (ECG).
