Practice Nurse Amman Tawe Partnership (Gwaun Cae Gurwen)

The Treatment Room Nurse will provide high quality, evidence based nursing care to patients within the GP practice, primarily focusing on treatment room services. This includes immunisations, baby and child health clinics, wound care, chronic disease monitoring, and health promotion. The role supports the wider clinical team to deliver safe, effective, and patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

Administer adult and childhood immunisations in line with NHS Wales guidelines and practice protocols.

Lead and participate in baby and child health clinics.

Provide wound care management, including assessment, dressing changes, suture removal, and management of chronic wounds.

Undertake cervical cytology, smear tests in line with Cervical Screening Wales protocols.

Assist in the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, and COPD as directed by practice protocols.

Conduct NHS health checks and routine health screenings.

Provide travel health advice and administer travel vaccinations as appropriate.

Perform venepuncture, ECGs, and other treatment room procedures.

Administer injections such as B12, hormone treatments, and other prescribed medications.

Offer advice and support on lifestyle changes, including smoking cessation, weight management, and alcohol reduction.

Ensure infection control procedures are strictly followed in all clinical activities.

Support the practice with the allocation of Medical Students and Physician associate students.

Job responsibilities

Administrative Duties

Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient records using the practice clinical system , for example Vision or EMIS.

Participate in the maintenance and ordering of treatment room supplies and vaccines.

Ensure cold chain maintenance and vaccine storage compliance.

Support the recall and invitation process for immunisation programmes and screening services.

Assist with audits, data collection, and quality improvement initiatives.

Professional Responsibilities

Adhere to NMC Code of Conduct and maintain active NMC registration.

Participate in annual appraisal and identify ongoing professional development needs.

Attend practice meetings and contribute to clinical discussions and policy updates.

Keep up to date with clinical guidelines and local NHS Wales policies.

Act as a mentor and support to junior staff or student nurses where appropriate.
