Introduction

Ailsa Craig is a friendly practice that is excited to welcome a Practice Nurse into our team.

We are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic, dedicated, and capable of providing a friendly, caring, and professional nursing service to our patients.

Role Overview

This role includes responsibilities such as cytology, asthma and COPD management, diabetes management, childhood and adult immunisations, requesting pathology tests (e.g., urine culture, swabs), and chronic disease management and evaluation of care. The nurse will collaborate with the General Practice Team to meet patient needs.

Job Responsibilities

Provide primary care nursing services, including:

  • Follow-up of patient test results and communication with patients
  • Phlebotomy services as required
  • Home visits as needed

Deliver timely, culturally appropriate health services through:

  • Ongoing health education and advice, including counseling to improve health and prevent disease
  • Use of recall and reminder systems and referral to national screening programs
  • Education to help patients reduce or change risky behaviors
  • Delivery of immunisation programs for adults, children, and infants
  • Travel health services, including vaccinations and advice
  • Collaboration with public health providers for disease prevention and control
  • Ongoing care for people with chronic and terminal conditions
  • Health promotion linked to public health programs at various levels
  • Supervision and assessment of student nurses and junior colleagues (when trained)
  • Assist with practice reporting requirements
  • Regular checks and proper equipment of emergency trolleys
  • Accurate documentation in EMIS, in line with practice policies
  • Participation in practice meetings and team communication
  • Own professional development and regular clinical supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients and team members
  • Adhere to health, safety, and infection control policies
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse
  • Full NMC registration
  • Certificates in cervical screening, immunisation, chronic disease management, and relevant areas
  • Diploma level qualification or higher
  • Commitment to professional development
Experience
  • Experience with NMC Code and scope of practice
  • Experience with EMIS clinical system
  • Experience dealing with the public/patients
  • Experience in GP or primary care settings
