Job description

Radford Medical Practice is a well-established, 2 sited, inner city practice serving a population of around 22,000 patients. We have a large student population based at the Nottingham Trent University and a smaller diverse population at our inner city Radford site.

We are looking for a forward thinking practice nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. Our ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, be enthusiastic , well organised , flexible and work well within a team.

This position will be based across 2 sites for up to 37.5 hours per week.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have their Practice Nurse Postgraduate Certificate (PGcert) however, we are committed to supporting motivated and enthusiastic individuals who are new to practice nursing by facilitating their professional development and assisting with their application to undertake their PgCert.

Protected CPD learning time and structured clinical supervision will be offered.

Main duties of the job

Roles and Responsibilities:

Performance and assistance in routine tasks related to patient care directed by senior nursing staff and GPs. The may include:

  • Cervical cytology
  • Contraceptive and sexual health services
  • Wound care assessment , including removal of sutures
  • Minor illness and injury
  • Management of patients with long term conditions
  • Annual health checks for patients identified as having learning disabilities
  • New patient health checks and cardiovascular screening
  • Travel health assessments
  • Triaging patients via the online consultation system
  • Venepuncture
  • Routine adult and childhood immunisations
  • Assisting GPs who perform minor surgery
  • Support the clinical team in responding to requests for home visits to housebound patients.
  • To support with Medical Student placements.
  • Support the Nurse Manager in their role on behalf of the Partners.
About us

We currently have 4 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Healthcare Assistants and a GP Assistant. We also have a large, experienced Care Navigator /administrative team.

We use the Emis Web clinical system. Experience using this system would be an advantage however full training will be offered.

We offer a competitive salary depending on experience along with an increase in annual leave which rises after continued service.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose : To provide a comprehensive practice nursing service in conjunction with GPs, senior nursing staff, or independently. These services will be provided according to relevant protocols and guidance. The post holder has continuing responsibility for the management of nursing activity including the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.

The post holder will work autonomously alongside other nursing colleagues to ensure adequate primary care nursing cover is provided at all times.
