Overview

We are offering a practice nurse role, preferably with experience but not essential, to join a dynamic two-site practice committed to excellent patient care. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can positively contribute to the care and wellbeing of patients, adapting to change and supporting a progressive team.

We have a large team of 5 practice nurses, 4 HCA's, 13 GPs, 1 ANP, and we support nursing and medical students and GP registrars. The practice serves a 22,000+ patient population split across two sites.

There is an opportunity for a newly qualified nurse or someone new to primary care to undertake the General Practice Nurse training scheme for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job
  • Organise and coordinate the provision of nursing services for the practice, including management of patients with long-term conditions, vaccinations and immunisations, cervical screening, general treatment room duties, and other duties within professional competencies.
  • Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.
  • Participate with the lead nurse to maintain equipment stock levels relating to patient care.
  • Following appropriate training, undertake collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens (including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears, etc.) and ensure the cleanliness of equipment used. Perform investigatory procedures as requested by clinicians.
  • Participate in the administrative responsibilities of the practice team.
  • Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient0s notes on the clinical computer system.
  • Ensure accurate completion of documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice.
  • Co-operate and participate in research projects within the practice as required.
About us

Our practice covers a diverse, large area of North Leeds from Harehills to Shadwell, with a patient population of around 21,000. The practice has two purpose-built buildings, one in Harehills and the other in Moortown.

We have 5 partners, 8 salaried Doctors, 1 pharmacist, 1 pharmacy technician, 5 Practice nurses and 4 Health Care Assistants. The clinicians are supported by a management and administration team and our reception team led by two reception supervisors. All staff are required to work across both sites.

Hours of work: 37.5 hrs

Contract type: Part-Time/Full Time

Role summary: Provide care to the practice patients, including treatment, preventative care, screening, and patient education.

Location: North Leeds Medical Practice, Leeds

Annual leave: 27 days plus 8 days Bank Holiday. After 5 years service this entitlement increases to 29 days plus 8 days Bank Holiday.

Salary: Negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience.

Job responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required;
  • Assist in the formulation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience of working within a nursing team; experience of dealing with vulnerable patients.
  • Experience of working in primary care; experience of working in a GP practice.

  • CVD, Respiratory + Diabetes qualifications; Cytology, Childhood + travel Immunisations; Independent Prescribing Qualification; Clinical Supervision experience; experience in Primary Care; Leadership Skills; IT literacy or willingness to learn; experience in implementing new protocols and clinical guidelines; experience of mentoring students.
