Whittington Moor Surgery is a busy yet welcoming practice, and we are excited to be expanding our Nursing Team. We are looking for a Practice Nurse to join us on a permanent basis, working 25 - 30 hours per week. Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Registered Nursewho can thrive in a busy, varied, and sometimes fast-paced environment, and who is willing to develop in the role of a General Practice Nurse by undertaking in-house and external learning and training.

As a valued member of our team, you will play a key role in supporting our Nursing Team including HCAs and Phlebotomists and in working closely with our GPs and wider Primary Care colleagues. Your role will cover the full scope of Practice Nurse duties, including:

Chronic disease management leading reviews for Asthma, COPD, Hypertension and Diabetes

Treatment room responsibilities wound care, cervical cytology, immunisations, travel vaccinations, and health checks

Health promotion and lifestyle advice supporting patients to take an active role in their own health and wellbeing

Clinical support providing nursing assistance to GPs and other members of the healthcare team

Clinical safety checks monitoring and maintaining clinical equipment, carrying out drug checks, ensuring the resuscitation trolley and anaphylaxis kits are always ready and safe to use and stock ordering.

Carry out home visits in line with the GP contract and to support vaccination campaigns

Job responsibilities

As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering both acute and long-term care, health promotion, and patient education. What You Will Do

Deliver effective, evidence-based nursing care to patients across all age groups

Work closely with colleagues to ensure the best possible patient outcomes

Key Clinical Skills

You will have the opportunity to use a wide variety of clinical skills, including:

ECGs, venepuncture, urinalysis, and blood pressure monitoring

Wound care, dressings, and ear syringing

Routine and childhood immunisations, travel health advice, and adult vaccinations

Women's health, including cervical screening, contraception, menopause & sexual health support

Lifestyle advice: smoking cessation, weight management, safe alcohol consumption, cardiovascular risk assessment and management

Chronic disease management: Asthma, COPD (including spirometry), diabetes, hypertension, weight management

Your Professional Role

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care independently

Provide advice, recommend treatment, and refer patients where necessary

Educate and support patients and carers in managing long-term conditions

Keep accurate, timely, and professional clinical records

Contribute to the smooth running of the practice, including stock management and vaccine ordering

Provide telephone triage and advice where appropriate

Training & Development

Stay up to date with all mandatory training, including anaphylaxis

Be supported in continuing professional education and staff development reviews

Contribute to the training and mentoring of junior nursing staff

Participate in clinical supervision

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse from any discipline with a willingness to undergo further training and independent study to enhance professional development.
  • Some Primary Care Nursing experience at pre or post-registration level.
  • Understanding of the principles behind chronic disease management.
  • Understanding of the role of a Practice Nurse.
  • Experience in implementing protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Good time management skills, punctual, able to manage and prioritise workload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills .
  • Knowledge of medicines management including PGDs and PSDs and their associated policy.
  • Awareness of local and national health policy.
  • Independent prescribing qualification, or interest to work towards this.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance in Primary Care.
  • Clinical skills - cervical cytology, immunisation and vaccination.
  • Women's health.
