Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Practice Nurse to join our friendly and experienced team on a fixed-term contract, part of the Barnsley PCN. Reporting to the Lead Nurse and supported in practice by an ANP and/or GP, this role will deliver practice nursing services and care to the practice population at our Grimethorpe site. The nurse will provide care within the boundaries of their role as part of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring long-term conditions, health prevention, and screening activities. You will join a fantastic team of supportive colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Main duties and tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Cervical smears
  • Chronic Disease Management
  • COPD/Asthma care
  • Removal of sutures
  • Urinalysis
  • Peak flow readings
  • Venepuncture
  • Blood pressure measurements
  • Ear Care
  • Routine childhood and adult immunisations
  • Requesting basic pathology tests, e.g., urine culture, swabs
  • Following clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate
  • Administration of Depo injections, Zoladex, B12
  • Contraception pill reviews
  • Leading infection control
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by nurses and GPs
  • Maintaining nurses' rooms, stocking, and rotating items as required
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients during examinations
  • Housekeeping duties including tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Ordering stock
  • Participating in administrative systems including QOF/IIF/PDA
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Advising GPs of potential problems or errors within assigned tasks
  • Attending and participating in monthly governance meetings
