Job description

We're looking for an experienced Practice Manager to provide strong operational and strategic leadership at our well-established GP practice. You'll champion our core valuesopenness, fairness, respect and accountabilityand support the GP Partners in ensuring we deliver high-quality, compassionate care to our 9,250 -strong patient list.

Main duties of the job

Oversee the smooth efficient and safe daily running of the practice managing operations across clinical and nonclinical services

Lead on direct national and local enhanced services QOF GP contract and PCN indicators

Manage practice finances including budgets financial reporting invoicing and debt recovery to ensure sustainability and profitability

Recruit induct manage and support staff clinical and nonclinical including appraisals performance management payroll and pension oversight

Ensure premises and equipment compliance with legal health and safety and infection control standards

Maintain compliance with NHS frameworks CQC GDPR and other regulatory requirements including conducting audits handling complaints and driving quality improvement

Oversee IT systems and lead on digital transformation initiatives

Develop business cases for service improvements and represent the practice at meetings with PCN ICB external stakeholders and neighbouring practices

Coordinate business continuity and risk management planning

Support safeguarding and ensure policies are understood and followed by all staff

Job responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Practice Manager to join Walkden Medical Centre, a long-established, welcoming GP practice in Worsley, Manchester.

You will work closely with the GP Partners to lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the practice, supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Work with GP Partners to develop business cases for service changes and improvements and represent the practice at PCN ICB and other stakeholder meetings

Coordinate business continuity planning and risk management processes

Promote safeguarding awareness and ensure policies and procedures are understood and followed by all staff

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Good standard of education with strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in business healthcare or management
  • Leadership or management qualification such as AMSPAR ILM CIPD or equivalent
Experience
  • At least 3 years experience in a senior management or leadership role
  • Financial management experience including budgeting and forecasting
  • Proven experience in staff recruitment appraisals performance management and payroll oversight
  • Strong understanding of compliance frameworks including CQC health and safety GDPR and infection control
  • Excellent communication leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritise delegate and deliver to deadlines in a busy environment
  • Strong IT skills with the ability to oversee practice systems
  • NHS or GP practice management experience
  • Experience managing large teams and multidisciplinary services
  • Knowledge of clinical systems such as EMIS AccuRx Docman
  • Health and safety or risk management experience
