Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a Practice Educator for our Acute Medical Units in UHD. The post holder will be a nurse with advanced clinical skills and an expert knowledge base, responsible for the educational development of our Acute Medical Units. The Practice Educator will support professional leadership for nurses and Healthcare Assistants in the directorate.

The Post Holder will work alongside staff during shifts to sign off competencies and support training and development for nurses. A key element of the role is identifying learning and development needs of Nursing and Healthcare staff in Acute Medicine.

Developing a learning framework and competencies to support and sign off Core Clinical competencies and specific skills in Acute Medicine. The post holder will also contribute to policy and procedure development within their sphere.

This role requires active UK NMC Registration.

Base Location: Poole & Bournemouth

Main duties of the job

  • Lead in planning, facilitating, and implementing continuous professional development and education.
  • Work alongside staff during shifts to sign off competencies and support training.
  • Identify learning and development needs of Nursing and AHP staff in the Acute Medical Unit.
  • Develop learning frameworks and competencies for clinical skills.
  • Provide educational programs to equip healthcare professionals to detect critically ill patients.
  • Integrate policies, education, practice development, and research relevant to the clinical area.
  • Act as a resource and advisor for future service developments and Trust-wide training.
  • Support and guide staff within the Acute Medical Unit as a self-directed practitioner.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Essential: NMC registered Nurse, Learning and assessing in clinical practice, Degree level education or relevant experience, Leadership qualification or experience.
  • Desirable: PGCE in Education Practice, Postgraduate Studies, Practice Teacher at Masters level.

Experience

  • Essential: Experience in acute medicine, working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, supervising and assessing practice, leading and managing staff.
  • Desirable: Experience as an educational link nurse, organizing training, human factors training, policy development.

Technical Skills/Competencies

  • Essential: Computer literacy, advanced clinical skills, advanced communication skills.
  • Desirable: Capability/performance management, advanced life support, proven leadership, TRIM Practitioner.
