Job description

The Team

KPMG's Infrastructure Team in the UK consists of around 400 professionals and is recognized as a leading independent adviser in infrastructure.

We provide advice on strategic, financial, regulatory, and commercial issues in infrastructure investments across Transport, Power & Utilities, and Social Infrastructure, both in the UK and internationally. Our services include market and policy design, economic analysis, deal structuring, and strategic advice to facilitate funding from private and public capital. We collaborate closely with other KPMG functions on mergers and acquisitions, valuations, tax, accounting, and due diligence.

The utilities sector is a key focus for our Infrastructure Team, working with major UK energy and water companies. We offer strategic and technical advice on corporate finance, financial management, regulatory finance, policy, business and financial planning, and other value-impacting issues. We are recognized as innovative leaders shaping the sector's future.

Our business is expanding, and we seek high-quality candidates to support our Power & Utilities sector, focusing on financial and economic analysis, including cost of capital estimation, financeability assessments, risk and scenario analysis, financial modeling, investment appraisal, and valuation.

The Role

  • You will join the leading provider of regulatory finance consultancy services in the utilities sector.
  • You will contribute to the team's regulatory finance work and have opportunities to work in other sectors.
  • Working with the utilities finance director, you will help lead and develop the team, expanding our sector presence.
  • This includes identifying new opportunities, supporting business development, and mentoring junior staff.
  • You will build relationships with key clients and other stakeholders, including legal and engineering advisors.
  • Your projects will be high-profile and diverse, including advising on cost of capital, financeability, risk analysis, financing strategies, financial modeling, state aid, CMA re-determinations, and major transactions.
  • You will apply structured economic and financial principles creatively to solve complex problems.
  • You will lead project delivery, delegate tasks, manage client interactions, oversee budgets, and ensure risk compliance.
  • Mentoring and coaching junior staff will be part of your responsibilities.
  • You will stay informed on regulatory finance issues affecting the sector and how regulatory mechanisms impact financing.

The Person

  • A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may suffice.
  • Significant experience in the utilities sector, either as a regulator or consultant, with expertise in WACC estimation and CAPM application.
  • Knowledge of UK regulatory regimes and finance mechanics for utilities, including capital structures and WACC's role in revenue estimation.
  • Strong understanding of economic and financial theory and its application, including risk-return trade-offs, valuation, capital structure, and beta estimation.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis, financial econometrics, and software such as Stata, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional report writing skills for technical audiences, with the ability to structure complex arguments clearly.
  • Experience in client-facing roles and presenting to stakeholders.
  • Independent thinking, problem-solving skills, and innovative mindset.
  • Ability to interact with companies, investors, regulators, and colleagues effectively.
  • Experience managing project teams, mentoring, and coaching junior staff.
  • A desire to manage teams and gain trust within the organization.
  • All UK staff without an FSA-approved exam must pass one.
  • A final word from us...

We pride ourselves on being different and are committed to growth and supporting our people. Joining us offers an attractive benefits package, including competitive salary, pension, bonuses, travel reimbursements, generous leave, health insurance, wellbeing programs, and flexible benefits.

We value curious, collaborative, and innovative individuals who want to make a collective impact. If this role isn't for you, stay connected for future opportunities. For more about careers at KPMG, visit:
