Job summary

RWE Supply & Trading GmbH is offering a one-year Industrial Placement in London or Swindon for an energy-focused student. You will work with our Transmission team to understand grid connections, risks, and policy impacts, gaining practical industry experience and exposure to European energy markets.

The role requires an energy engineering student in the penultimate year with strong English, Python knowledge, and an interest in commercial energy risk and policy.

Choose Power Transmission

Our Transmission team work across Europe ensuring that our generation and storage projects benefit from optimal grid connections –this complex but exciting environment will provide you with working knowledge of the grid connection procedure, the regulatory environment surrounding it and the evaluation of commercial and operational risks.

You will contribute to the development of power flow and congestion models, support and contribute to critical stakeholder meetings, review UK transmission policy changes, assist the team in identifying optimal points of connection for current and future renewable generation projects, and support us to undertake commercial risk assessments of grid related policies and constraints.

Job requirements and experiences

We’re looking for students who are in the penultimate year of an electrical, power or renewable energy engineering degree or similar (if your studies have included energy policy or economics, that would be an added bonus) and who are ideally on course to achieve a 2:1 or higher. What you must have is:

• Excellent communication skills with fluent English.
• IT proficiency including the ability to use AI-enabled productivity tools.
• Organisational skills to allow you to manage your workload and meet tight deadlines.
• A desire to work collaboratively with a curious approach, challenging yourself to find new solutions.
• Motivated to take on new challenges, whether operating independently or in a team.
• Knowledge of Python and ideally previous use of power system software such as Powerworld etc.
• Commercial aptitude and entrepreneurial skills.
• Analytical mind and the ability to learn quickly.
• Enthusiasm and drive to develop your skillset and seek out development opportunities within a supportive team.
