We are seeking a Power Systems Senior Technical Advisor to join our Power Networks team within our Net Zero Energy Business. This position can be based in Glasgow or Birmingham, with a flexible mix of home-working and office collaboration. We also welcome part-time applicants and those wishing to work from other locations such as Epsom or Leeds.

The UK Energy market is undergoing unprecedented change as the country strives towards a net zero carbon target. The sector must contend with high penetration of modern generation, transmission and distribution technologies, energy storage, and increased demand from electrification of transport and heat. Networks play a crucial role in connecting renewable energy, with transmission network operators securing c.£8bn as part of the RIIO T2 package.

Your purpose:

  • You will deliver innovative projects across the energy sector, leading or contributing alongside subject matter experts.
  • You will provide clients with commercial, technical, and regulatory advice based on your UK energy industry experience.
  • You will prepare concise reports and present findings to clients via meetings and workshops.
  • You will oversee work from Engineers and Graduate Engineers, reviewing their work and guiding them appropriately.

What you can bring?

In addition to strong communication and leadership skills, key attributes include:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Good knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulatory/financial incentives for transmission and distribution networks in GB.
  • Strong understanding and leadership of engineering projects through asset lifecycles.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer through the IET.
  • Experience in regulatory and technical due diligence of transmission and distribution assets.
  • Experience in preparing or assessing business plans for regulated utilities or innovation projects.
