Job description

We are seeking a Power Systems Engineer to support technically challenging projects across the UK electricity network, including renewable generation, battery storage, network infrastructure and emerging electricity demand.

This is a mid-level opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical foundation who is ready to take greater ownership of power-system studies, grid connections, client engagement and project delivery.

You will support projects from feasibility and connection application through detailed design, compliance and energisation, working with developers, network operators, OEMs, EPC contractors and technical specialists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate transmission and distribution network models using DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS®E, PSCAD, ETAP or IPSA.
  • Undertake load-flow, fault-level, voltage, reactive-power, contingency and stability studies.
  • Conduct harmonic, power-quality and voltage-fluctuation assessments.
  • Model renewable generation, BESS, transformers, cables, overhead lines and reactive compensation.
  • Support UK grid connection applications and technical engagement with NESO, Transmission Owners, DNOs and IDNOs.
  • Undertake studies supporting GB Grid Code, Distribution Code, G99, G5/5, P28 and ENA requirements.
  • Interpret connection offers and identify technical risks, obligations and network constraints.
  • Take ownership of defined study packages and produce clear technical reports and recommendations.
  • Present findings to clients and technical stakeholders and coordinate inputs from OEMs, EPCs and network operators.
About You

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 5 years’ relevant experience in power systems, grid connections, network planning or electrical-system studies.
  • Practical experience undertaking studies for transmission, distribution, generation, storage or major-demand projects.
  • Good knowledge of the GB electricity network, Grid Code, Distribution Code and G99.
  • Strong capability in at least one major study platform, ideally PowerFactory, PSS®E or PSCAD.
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting power-system models.
  • The ability to interpret technical results and translate them into practical project recommendations.
  • Strong technical reporting and stakeholder communication skills.

Experience with renewable energy or BESS connections, RMS/EMT studies, inverter-based resources, dynamic modelling, G99/Grid Code compliance, harmonics, protection studies or Python/MATLAB would be advantageous.

Right to Work: Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must therefore already have the right to work in the UK without requiring current or future employer sponsorship.
