Job description

MCS Group is proud to be partnering with a leading organisation that's powering Northern Ireland's transition to a low-carbon future to recruit a Power System Planning Engineer.

As a Power System Planning Engineer, you will join a team at the heart of the energy transition. You will play a key role in analysing and shaping how the transmission grid evolves to meet future demands, helping to decarbonise the energy system while ensuring a safe, secure, and reliable supply.

As a Power System Planning Engineer, you will:

  • Carry out power system studies /analysis (load flow, voltage, short circuit, stability)
  • Develop and assess reinforcement and connection options for the grid
  • Customer connection assessments
  • Use tools like PSS/E or PowerFactory for modelling and analysis
  • Engage and build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Produce clear, high-quality technical reports

The successful candidate will have:

  • University degree in engineering or equivalent, with at least 2 years' relevant post-grad experience
  • Ambition to develop experience in power systems studies for a net zero future
  • Experience or knowledge of steady state load flow, voltage, and short circuit analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to convey technical content to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Desirable: Electrical Engineering degree, NI power system knowledge, and experience using Python or advanced Excel for data analysis
