Job summary

Buro Happold is seeking a Power Sector Development Director to lead growth across the UK and international power market. This senior, market-facing role focuses on strategy, building relationships and winning work within the evolving energy landscape.

Hybrid role based from a UK office (London, Bath, Leeds, Manchester or Edinburgh). You will develop market propositions across energy transition, grid connection, renewables and power infrastructure, and help shape sector strategy and long‑term

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a growth strategy for the power and energy transition sector.
• Build and maintain senior relationships across utilities, transmission and distribution operators, renewable developers, investors and public-sector stakeholders.
• Identify new market opportunities and create clear, differentiated client propositions.
• Lead business development, client engagement and work-winning activities.
• Collaborate with technical teams to align market opportunities with Buro Happold's multidisciplinary capabilities.
• Provide strategic market insight to support long-term business growth and diversification.
• Represent Buro Happold across industry forums, conferences and client networks.

We are seeking a Power Sector Development Director to lead growth within the UK and international power market. This is a senior, market-facing role focused on developing strategy, building relationships and winning work across the evolving energy landscape.

Hybrid role based from one of our UK offices, including: London, Bath, Leeds, Manchester or Edinburgh.

The Opportunity

Working closely with senior leaders and technical specialists across Buro Happold, you will identify where we can create the greatest impact and develop compelling client propositions across areas including:

• Energy transition
• Grid connection and electrification
• Renewable energy integration
• power generation
• Planning and consenting
• Environmental and advisory services
• Multidisciplinary infrastructure delivery

Rather than inheriting an established market position, you will have the opportunity to help define and build one.

About You

You are a recognised and credible professional within the power or energy transition market, with a proven ability to turn relationships into opportunities and opportunities into successful outcomes.

You'll likely bring:

• Significant experience within the power, energy or adjacent infrastructure sectors.
• A strong track record of business development, market growth and work winning.
• An established network of senior industry contacts.
• Commercial acumen and the ability to identify market opportunities and build propositions.
• Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing strategic decision-making.
• A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for building something new.

Experience within areas such as renewables, grid infrastructure, energy advisory, planning and consenting, environmental services, infrastructure or power-sector consulting would be highly advantageous.
