Argus Analytics forms one half of the advisory division of Argus Media Group. Comprising a global team of 90 analysts, we provide clients with analysis, data and forecasts across 35 commodities and markets spanning oil & gas, chemicals, fertilizers, generation fuels, metals and energy transition solutions. Our work is firmly focused on market fundamentals — considering end-to-end value chains, international trade flows and macroeconomic trends. Our value proposition centres around the quality of our analysts, the depth of our data and our ability to leverage Argus’ wider strengths, including 55 years of commodity markets expertise, unrivalled global networks and proprietary datasets.

What will you be doing

As part of the continued expansion of our practice, we are currently looking for a passionate, driven and energetic subject matter expert, to help develop our long term power advisory capability. This role will support us in developing analysis that will form the basis of our advisory work.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in Power analysis and forecasting to play a leading role in the development of new services and to position themselves as a market expert in an area that is vital to the development of our business.

Key responsibilities
  • Shape & deliver consultancy advisory work for clients in the power sector, including price & market due diligence, regulatory response and investment support engagements

  • Develop and continuously improve fundamental power market models (supply, demand, dispatch, price formation). Translate modelling outputs into clear market views and price forecasts

  • Maintain current knowledge of major drivers and trends across the power industry . Identify and quantify key market risks (policy, fuel pricing, capacity shifts)

  • Support client-facing deliverables (reports, consulting, presentations)

  • Take ownership of specific market segments (e.g. Germany, UK, or Iberia)

  • Build strong understanding of other Argus Generation Fuel services, data and capabilities, to help ensure market views are consistent across our offerings

  • Work with stakeholders across other Argus teams, including Analytics, to ensure relevant knowledge is shared and used effectively. Act as Subject Matter Expert where needed

  • Contribute to development of Argus view on ways in which power markets will develop through energy transition

Skills and Experience
  • Educated to degree level (2.1 or above) from a leading university. Further education (e.g. Masters) a plus

  • Strong understanding of Power markets, how they operate and key market trends, gained through 3-5+ years in the industry. Experience of using third party Energy Modelling Software (e.g. Plexos) beneficial

  • Highly numerate with experience analysing comprehensive datasets quickly and meticulously with excellent attention to detail and accuracy focus.

  • Intellectually curious and able to demonstrate structured problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills.

  • Strong IT skills including advanced Excel and PowerPoint. Awareness of other statistical and programming languages such as R is an advantage.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks to deadline and to meet targets.

  • Flexible in approach, highly motivated and willing to contribute to the growth of Argus’ Consulting Services.
