Job summary

ESCO Maritime Solutions is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer - Contractor to design, develop, test, and support power electronic systems. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver reliable, high-integrity solutions that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

The role involves leading end-to-end design from concept to production, providing technical input across multiple projects, and mentoring engineers to build technical excellence within the organisation.

Qualifications

• HNC, HND, or degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Experience designing electronic systems within high-reliability or regulated industries.
• Proven ability to lead technical activities and influence engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Leading the design and development of power electronic systems from concept through to production.
• Provide technical input for power electronics across multiple projects and programmes.
• Defining system and subsystem requirements, ensuring solutions meet customer, regulatory, and operational needs.
• Providing expert guidance on analogue and mixed-signal design, architecture, and component selection.
• Conducting circuit analysis, simulation, design reviews, and technical investigations.
• Overseeing schematic capture and guiding PCB layout activities for manufacturability and reliability.
• Supporting verification, integration, qualification, and production activities.
• Mentoring and developing engineers to build technical excellence.
• Representing the business in technical reviews and customer meetings.
• Analyze and resolve design issues identified during development, production, and field operation.
• Perform root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.

As a Power Electronics Engineer - Contractor you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and support of power electronic systems and products. This role involves the specification and development of power conversion solutions and associated control systems. The engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, efficient, and cost-effective products that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Leading the design and development of power electronic systems from concept through to production
• Provide technical input for power electronics across multiple projects and programmes.

• Working closely with customers, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.
• Mentoring and developing engineers, helping to build technical excellence across the organisation.
• Representing the business in technical reviews, customer meetings, and programme discussions.
• Analyse and resolve design issues identified during development, production, and field operation.
• Perform root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications / skills required

• HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Significant experience designing electronic systems within high-reliability or regulated industries.
• Strong understanding of:
  • Power conversion topologies
  • Magnetic component design
  • Analogue and digital control systems
  • Thermal design principles
  • EMC/EMI mitigation techniques
• Strong analogue electronics design and circuit simulation expertise.
• Proven ability to lead technical activities and influence engineering decisions.
• Experience with communication protocols such as RS485, SPI, I²C, CAN, or similar.
• Strong understanding of component selection, derating, reliability, and lifecycle considerations.
• Experience producing and reviewing schematics and technical documentation.
• Understanding of PCB design principles, layout supervision, and design-for-manufacture practices.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with customers, suppliers, and engineering teams.
• Self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of leading technical delivery in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Altium Designer
• Experience working within the defence or aerospace
