Postnatal and Transitional Care Ward Midwife

Are you looking for a more dynamic midwifery role? Our 'Outstanding' rated Maternity Unit at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital are looking for an experienced midwife to join their postnatal team on our Edith Dare ward.

If you are a compassionate and skilled midwife looking to make a meaningful impact in maternal care, we want to hear from you. Join our dedicated team at Edith Date Ward, where you will thrive in a role supported by two enthusiastic ward managers.

In this unique position, you won't be just another staff member -- you'll be a vital part of a caring and professional team, ensuring the best possible outcomes for mothers and their new-borns. With a dedicated discharge and EON midwife on every shift, you can focus on providing exceptional care in other critical areas, knowing that the discharge process is in expert hands.

This role is perfect for midwives eager to expand their skills and knowledge. We offer substantial development opportunities, especially in our neonatal transitional care, preparing you to handle complex situations with confidence and expertise.

Main duties of the job
  • To work as a prime care provider in all aspects of midwifery care. To work flexibly within the team to provide 24 hour cover on the postnatal ward. This will require rotation between day/night duty across the week.
  • The post holder is expected to be an expert clinical midwife who will give advice and guidance on the midwifery care of women and pregnant people, babies and their families
  • To provide midwifery care for in-patients during the postnatal period
  • To support the day to day running of the Edith Dare Ward including multidisciplinary ward rounds
  • Be a mentor to qualified midwives, students and support staff
  • To work collaboratively with the Ward managers and Matrons to provide and develop high quality, safe and effective service
  • To work collaboratively with patients and user representatives to develop the service in response to feedback received including local and national initiatives

Person Specification
Education
  • Midwifery degree or equivalent
  • Mentorship or full SSSA preparation
  • Registered Midwife on NMC register
  • NIPE/EON
Experience
  • Completed 1 year post registration clinical experience working as an RM in the UK
  • Completed preceptorship course if applicable
  • Scrubbing in theatre
  • Worked within a continuity of carer pathway previously
Skills
  • Willing to work in all areas of maternity
  • Knowledge of obstetric Emergency skills and drills and the ability to perform in an emergency situation
  • Involvement in quality improvement projects
  • Worked as shift leader
  • FSRH letter of competency for contraceptive implant insertion
