Job Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to our pioneering work focused on enhancing the efficacy of radiotherapy in cancer treatment. Our research aims to develop targeted strategies that selectively increase the sensitivity of tumour cells to radiotherapy, with the ultimate goal of improving cure rates while minimizing side effects. A key component of our work involves translating laboratory discoveries into clinical applications.

In this role, you will take the lead on an independent project within our broader research programme. Your work will centre on identifying and characterising novel regulators of the immune response induced by radiotherapy. You will employ a broad range of experimental approaches, including cell line engineering, transcriptional reporter assays, flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, ELISA, and CRISPR-based genetic screens. You will also contribute to the development of new scientific techniques, collaborate on publications and grant proposals, and represent the group at national and international scientific meetings. As part of a dynamic research environment, you will provide mentorship to junior team members and contribute to collaborative projects within and beyond the department.

The post will be based at the Old Road Campus Research Building, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7DQ, and is offered on a full-time basis, fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance.

About you

You will hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in cell biology, molecular biology, biomedicine, or a related field. You will have in-depth knowledge and experience in the cell and molecular biology of cancer, as well as significant expertise in a range of molecular and cell biology techniques. You will be an independent and innovative researcher, capable of managing your own project and contributing to the scientific direction of the group. Strong communication skills are essential, enabling you to publish high-quality research, deliver compelling presentations, and foster productive collaborations. You will have experience mentoring students or junior researchers and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Desirable attributes include a background in radiation biology, cell signalling, or immunology, as well as first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
