Job description

Postdoctoral Researcher in Computationally-Driven Materials Design and Discovery

114193

22-Sep-2026 23:30

Hours of work: Full-time

Tenure: Fixed term until October 2029

We are seeking outstanding researchers with experience in developing and applying computational chemistry tools to materials discovery.

The successful candidate will join the ERC Advanced Grant project MaterED (Materials Discovery: from Exploration towards Design).

The project is led by Professor Matt Rosseinsky OBE FRS, who works on the discovery of functional inorganic materials, through integrated computational and experimental approaches.

The project aims to move beyond traditional incremental materials development toward structure-driven discovery, using an hypothesis driven approach inspired by a recently discovered lithium ion conductor (*Science*, **2024**, *383*, 739) in which a computational workflow was used to both identify the target chemical composition for synthesis and to understand the origin of high ionic conductivity of the new material.

You will work within a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment that brings together expertise in chemistry, physics, and computer science.

Success in this role requires the ability to engage effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and career stage.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.

Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to enhancing a workforce as diverse as our community and particularly encourage applicants who are of minoritised genders and ethnic backgrounds, living with a disability, and/or are members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
