The University of Oxford is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join an internationally recognised programme investigating novel mechanisms of oxygen sensing and hypoxia biology. The successful candidate will contribute to a project examining cardiovascular responses to hypoxia mediated by an oxygen-sensing pathway in our lab, integrating molecular mechanisms with whole-animal physiology.
The role involves in vivo and ex vivo approaches, phenotyping of knockout models, and collaboration
We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join a internationally recognised programme investigating novel mechanisms of oxygen sensing and hypoxia biology. The successful candidate will contribute to a project examining cardiovascular responses to hypoxia mediated by a recently discovered oxygen‑sensing pathway first elucidated in our laboratory. This work revealed a novel mechanism whereby N‑terminal cysteine dioxygenation of the Regulators of G‑protein Signalling 4 and 5 (RGS4 and RGS5) couples cellular oxygen availability to the control of G‑protein signalling. The project will focus on defining the cardiovascular consequences of disrupting this pathway through detailed phenotyping of ADO knockout in vivo and will involve a range of in‑vivo and ex‑vivo approaches to investigate cardiovascular function under basal conditions and in response to hypoxia and/or pharmacological stimulation. The role offers an excellent opportunity to integrate molecular mechanisms of oxygen sensing with whole‑animal physiology and cardiovascular biology.
