John Krebs Field Station, Department of Biology, Wytham, Oxford, OX2 8QJ, and other buildings affiliated with the Department of Biology. We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our dynamic group at the Department of Biology. The Verd lab is interested in the diversity of biological form, how it is generated, and how it evolves. In particular, we focus on the evolution and evolvability of vertebral counts, using various species of Lake Malawi cichlids as our model organism. To address these questions, we employ interdisciplinary approaches ranging from experimental embryology and fluorescent microscopy to mathematical modelling. The lab is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative. You will manage your own research and administrative activities, including small-scale project management to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will adapt existing and develop new research methodologies and materials. Candidates should hold, or be close to completing, a relevant PhD. Essential experience includes vertebrate experimental embryology (preferably in teleost fishes) and confocal microscopy. Experience in generating transgenic reporter lines and gene editing will be valued. Excellent communication skills, including writing for publication, presenting research proposals and results, and representing the research group at meetings, are required. If Covid-19 has significantly disrupted your work or research outputs, please include an explanation in your supporting statement. The University of Oxford is committed to equality and diversity. All applicants will be judged on merit according to the selection criteria. This full-time position is available immediately for an initial period of 2 years.
