About the role

The Lau Lab is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join us, to study how the malaria parasite cytoskeleton organises the cell. Our research projects require a creative, multidisciplinary approach, and as such provide opportunities across parasitology, structural biology, biochemistry and cell biology including single molecule fluorescence microscopy, CRISPR/Cas9 and cryo electron microscopy.

You will join our enthusiastic lab in the Department of Biochemistry. We aim to upskill all our members and work together to answer important biological questions about how cytoskeletal proteins are used by disease-relevant organisms. We have access to excellent facilities such as the Central Oxford Structural and Molecular Imaging centre (COSMIC), as well as the Micron imaging facility.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 3 years in the first instance. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.

About you

You should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be close to completion, of a relevant PhD/DPhil with a proven record of being able to learn and apply specialist knowledge in parasitology, structural biology, cell biology or molecular biochemistry. You should be interested in an interdisciplinary research project involving cellular organisation and you will be expected you to manage your own academic research, as well as collaborate with our team and other scientists. You should also have excellent communication skills to be able to write for publication, present research and represent the research group at meetings.
