Our research is engaged, at the frontier of practice and has a positive impact on the world around us.

Background

We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a BBSRC Pioneer Award-funded project investigating how melanocytes coordinate oxidative stress responses between different skin cell types. The project combines experimental cell biology, advanced live-cell imaging and nanosensor-based technologies. The postholder will be based in the School of Health & Medical Sciences at City St George’s, University of London (Tooting Campus), working with Dr Elena Sviderskaya in close collaboration with Professor Yuri Korchev at Imperial College London.

Responsibilities

The postholder will maintain and experimentally manipulate mammalian cell cultures, including immortal melanocytes and other skin cell types; develop and investigate 2D and 3D co-culture models to study redox responses and cell-cell communication; and apply live-cell imaging, fluorescent ROS/redox measurements and nanosensor-based approaches. The postholder will analyse and interpret experimental data, contribute to experimental design and scientific publications, and present research findings at scientific meetings and conferences.

Person Specification

Applicants should have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, electrophysiology or a related discipline, together with substantial practical experience in mammalian cell culture and experimental cell biology. Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively, are essential. Experience in live-cell imaging, scanning probe microscopy, nanosensors, nanopipette-based techniques, electrophysiology, redox/ROS measurements or multicellular culture models would be advantageous. Training in specialised techniques will be provided.
