Postdoctoral Research Associate - AI Design Lab (Part-Time)

The AI-Design Lab (AiDLab) is an international collaboration between the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) and the Royal College of Art (RCA), funded by the Hong Kong SAR Government's InnoHK programme. Drawing on the research excellence of both institutions, AiDLab explores how artificial intelligence and design can address some of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century, with three key research programmes:
- AI in Fashion Design
- AI in Textile and Apparel Quality Control
- AI in Ergonomic Design
The RCA leads three projects across these programmes, bringing together interdisciplinary teams and industry partners to develop innovations with real-world applications.
About the Project
You will join ANTLER I, a pioneering initiative to advance AI in digitised craftsmanship, particularly haute couture embroidery. This project bridges traditional couture techniques with cutting-edge AI to capture, preserve, and extend rare fashion and textile skills, ensuring their future in the luxury market.
The Role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in programming, artificial intelligence models, data analysis, and large language model engineering. You will work closely with project leads at RCA and academic collaborators at HKPU, contributing to research outputs, stakeholder presentations, and exhibitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research in alignment with project objectives.
- Collaborate with academic and industry partners to develop innovative AI-driven design solutions.
- Produce and disseminate research outputs suitable for peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and exhibitions.
- Support funding applications and manage awarded research activities.
- Present research to diverse audiences, from academic peers to industry stakeholders.
- Contribute to the RCA's research culture through participation in events, workshops, and academic forums.
Essential Criteria
- PhD in a relevant field (e.g., computational design, software development) or equivalent professional experience or Master's degree with significant research experience.
- Strong knowledge of AI and large language modelling.
- Proven ability to produce quality research outputs.
- Experience in contributing to and reporting on research projects.
- Understanding of research ethics, integrity, and data management.
- Collaborative approach with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creativity, adaptability, and commitment to the project's aims.
Desirable
- Experience with AI-driven pattern generation, gesture recognition, or real-time data processing.
- Track record in HE/industry collaborative projects.
