Job Description:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research assistant focusing on the development of the vertex detector for LHCb Upgrade II. The position is available for a fixed-term duration of 12 months, starting as soon as possible. The work can be based at Oxford or CERN.

The main responsibilities include:

  1. Studying composite materials for a beam-facing RF shield.
  2. Contributing to the operation and exploitation of the Timepix4 testbeam.
  3. Performing simulation work to optimize the performance of the vertex detector design for LHCb Upgrade II.

Physics analysis may be possible if time permits. Candidates should hold, or be close to completing, a doctoral degree in experimental particle physics. Experience with LHCb simulation development, testbeam operations, or detector commissioning is advantageous. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to plan and execute research activities, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively. Opportunities for teaching or demonstrating in undergraduate laboratories may be available depending on interest.
